CANON G7X MARK II: UNBOXING & FIRST IMPRESSIONS

If you know me at all, you'll know that I've been looking at this particular camera for MONTHS. As well as reading about it on the Canon website, I've also been watching a tonne of different YouTube videos, from vlogs to reviews, just to make sure this camera was the one for me.

I know that you don't really NEED a professional camera to be a successful blogger/vlogger, however if you had my phone you'd be wanting to buy a camera too. Not only is the screen cracked, but I also spilt oil on my phone (don't even ask why because I don't know), making the oil get in between the cracks so now my screen is all cloudy and unfortunately it's not something that rice could fix!

So after all my research, I decided this camera was the one I wanted. The Canon G7X Mark II Powershot camera. This is apparently 2017's best camera for vlogging, making it perfect for me as I'll be vlogging my upcoming trips to Thailand and Paris.

As I still have to play around with the camera a bit more, trying out all of its features(I only got it the other day), this post will just be an unboxing along my first impressions on the camera itself. I also plan on doing two other posts about this camera on whether or not it was worth the splurge and also one about what accessories I bought for it and if I recommend them! As this is a well requested camera, I hope this helps some people who are undecided on whether or not this camera will be right for them!

The Camera Itself...

Aesthetically, this camera is STUNNING. I prefer the look of black cameras as opposed to other colours as I'm all for simplicity when it comes to cameras, phones etc.

There is a finger grip on the front of the camera too which makes to soooo much easier to hold with one hand and still allows me to press the shutter button with ease.

The screen of the camera is not only touch screen but can also be flipped up or tilted back to make sure you get that perfect picture. What I like about the touch screen is that if you're wanting the camera to focus on a certain object, you just tap it on the screen and it focuses almost instantly!

This is not a con what so ever but the camera was quite a bit heavier than I was expecting! As it's just a point and shoot camera I was expecting it to be very lightweight but that's not the case with this one! Like I said I'm not complaining about it, it's just something I thought I should let you all know. It's probably best that its a bit heavier because it does feel sturdy and feels "worth the money" when I'm holding it haha!

One thing that needs mentioned about this camera is that the lens is not removable. For an amateur like me, this isn't an issue what so ever but I do understand how this might be an issue for those who are more experienced with photography...

From watching all of these YouTube reviews, I was aware there if a WiFi button on the side. This means you can send photos and videos straight to your phone using the camera's built in WiFi with no leads needed. PERFECT for on the go. It doesn't show you how to link your phone in the manual I got with it however there are simple, easy steps on YouTube and the camera itself guides you through it too!

What I Got With The Camera...

So alongside the camera, I got a few more bits and bobs inside the box...

1) wrist strap

2) camera battery

3) battery charger

4) instructions manual and guide

The one thing I was hoping to also receive was some kind of shoulder/neck strap. I feel like it's much more important and safe than a wrist strap but that's just me. I'll just have to do some research on some good ones and buy one!

Overall Thoughts...

So far so good!! I know this isn't a very descriptive review as I haven't even had the chance to sit down and play around with it but I still hope this helps some people who are thinking of buying this camera! When it comes to anything at all, first impressions are always key and this camera surely lived up to my expectations. The price still seems a little steep for me yet but I'm sure this camera has so many amazing features to help soften the blow a bit...

As I've said above, there will be another review which will round up on whether or not I think the camera was worth the money, as I will have sussed out the features a lot more by then to have a final answer. Until then, I will now be purchasing various accessories that have been recommended by other bloggers and YouTubers and testing them out to see if they were really needed or not... so stay tuned!! Thanks for reading this (very brief) first impressions post! xoxo
